As we know the northern states of USA had formally declared slavery system
illegal by enacting necessary laws, however the southern states were not
willing to co-operate with the north. On the eve of Abraham Lincoln's
election
as president in 1860, all bugals of imminent civil war between the two
halves
were heard in the air. Here below is tabulated the count of chained souls,
then in possession of the white masters of southern states, almost all of
them
bought and brought from Africa.

1) Virginia        : 4,91,000
2) Georgia        : 4,62,000
3) Misissippi    : 4,37,000
4) Alabama      : 4,35,000
5) S. Carolina  :  4,02,000
6) Lousiana     :  3,32,000
7) N. Carolina  :  3,31,000
8) Tenesse      : 2,76,000
9) Kentucky    : 2,25,000
10) Texas       : 1,83,000
11) Missourie  : 1,15,000
12) Arkansas  : 1,11,000
13) Meryland   :   87,000
14) Florida      :   62,000
15) Delaware   :    2,000

Half the Whites in these 15 states had, on an average 5 slaves.

In comparison, and with some exaggeration, can't we surmise we Indians gave
far better treatment to our Harijans ??
