I think its confirmed that your information was correct. Some companies ARE 
coming out with vegetarian varakh.

However the animals are not slaughtered exclusively for varakh it seems. Rather 
the intestines from the battoirs are sent for utilisation here.

But we live in a country where human life is cheap so what can we say about 
animals.
