While the debate on Urban Legend originating from
Johns Hopkins continues, I would draw your attention
to our own country. 

Just after the meteorite fall in Gujarat in 2006, the
GSI has stated that the meteorites were radioactive
and one can get cancer. I had file an RTI Application
on this topic, which went unanswered and finally
landed with the CIC. The newpaper link tell the rest
