He was not the first nor will he be the last.

I was in Calgary in 2000 Oct way before 11 Sep and was on my way to the US 
(NJ). The US Customs were anything but friendly.

My "crime" was that my ticket did not match my dress! I was flying first 
class and was dressed in Jeans. I had actually just finished a two week 
training program and was on my way back. Teh Customs officer was "black" and 
actually put on rubber gloves before he took my passport!!!

He sent me into another room and I was grilled for nearly 15 minutes by 
another member of his staff before i was let go. In parting the lady who 
asked all the questions -and it stopped only after they discovered i worked 
for an American oil company- told me it was like evry 80th passenger that 
got stopped.

Sounded fine to me until I came out of the room and saw a line of people 
waiting to be interrogated. All black brown yellow and hispanic.

There could not have been so many passengers using her 80th passenger line.

The story was teh same at Chicago Ne Jersey and at JFK. I learnt the "hard 
way" that if i travel to teh US or from there i need to have an extra dose 
of patience and time :)
