Hmm... what is F1 racing?
Well I am sure the name of Michael Schumacher (hope I got the spelling
right) shall sound familiar... he is one of the most of the most
successful Formula One (F1) drivers in the world...
What is Formula One Racing?
Well it's an rare instance when The Cutting Edge of Technology marries
Endurance & Guts...of the driver... most of the races have an average
speed of 200+ Km/hr...
The engines of these cars are the best in the world & the cars have the
highest Power to Weight Ratio... in layman terms, the car behaves as if
you are on a bike... with respect to speed... the aerodynamics of the
car are exceptional... and are designed to give maximum down force, why
you may ask? Well to stop the car from flying off & more grip...
Also each F1 car has it's own suite of drive by wire technology...
hmm... say something like the fuel air mixture, gear changes, traction
control, adjusted steering control (for Over/Under Steer control), and
many more... controls are decided by the onboard computer... also there
are thousands of sensors recording the car's behavior so that
technicians back at the pit can improve the car's performance... also
each of them has a microwave link to the base computer... for clear,
faster communication between driver & team, as also between the on=board
computer & the team computer... Hi-Tech well it is...
The cars are extremely light, and made of Carbon Fiber, with certain
more additions, to make it stronger, so much so the car driver can
survive a 300+ km/hr crash, though there have been a few fatal crashes,
the F1 car is much safer than the car anyone of us drive to
work/college...
Isn't it just another car?
Well it is & it's not, why? Well when you press gas/accelerator pedal,
one has to wait for the car to respond, then slowly & steadily the speed
pick (differs on the car driven) on an F1 the acceleration 0-100km/hr is
under 3 sec & 200 mark is reached in 5 secs, (specs from Williams '01
car)...
The engine is useless after one race and engine blowouts happen... in
addition to tire blowouts... and there is no air-conditioning... and
only one can fit in... Tires wear out after 10km depending on track
condition, imagine tire changes every pit-stop... fuel efficiency again
is a matter left untouched...
So what is F1 all about speed, speed, speed, and responsible speed... :)
Have a nice day...
Remember F1 racing is only for professionals... any speed above 60km/hr
in any car in India is injurious to your & your car's health, Wear a
Seat-Belt always...
Driving is a Pleasure; Enjoy it responsibly not recklessly...
Regards,
Maverick
