GHOSTS

Ghosts.
Spirituous unseen hosts.

They live in the loft, and walk the croft
And watch you avidly all night long

They wake when you sleep
And unwelcome company keep
Till another ghost comes along.

Then they dance and they prance
Around the bed on which you slumber
And when you wake to ask, "Who is there!"
They recede into the bedroom walls bare.

Sleep, my dears, and wake you not
For you will see ghosts who forgot

To entirely die.
