hi folks,
i wanted to share this incident with u people n i want u'll to
broadcast to as many people as possible so that at least people know of
whats happening around them.
we had gone to a place called "starters n more" (a high end
restaurant n bar) near eros theater: bombay. it was a farewell for a friend
and we wanted a nice time and a hearty dinner.after spending a while there
we made a reasonble request to the staff to play some hindi songs for a
while. the place was empty at that late hour save for us and a group of 4
frenchmen.to our utter surprise the people refused to play hindi flatly. on
being asked why the sorry excuse given was "we dont play hindi just because
it is hindi".when we argued against this the next sickening excuse was "the
others here wont like it if we play hindi". well we said "the only others r
4 french men who harldy speak english n r totally engrossed in a football
match that is being shown on the large screen n they couldnt care less about
the language of the song".what difference does english, hindi or swahili make
to them.above all why should the presence of white skinned people prevent us
from playing decent songs in hindi or other regional languages just because
of our own prejudices.had we asked for some objectionable or vulgar song
then refusing would have been fathomable. but if they could play "who the
f**k is alice" in english why refuse decent hindi songs.only after things
heated up pretty badly n after our stark refusal to pay the bill did they
give in n played 3 songs as if it were a great obligation on us n that too
when we were paying the same amount as the frenchmen.
if this happens to us in our own country what right do we have to
demand equal treatment elsewhere.why brand them racist when we ourselves
havent yet gotten over the colonial mindset? why havent we lost this
demeaning inferiority complex for the white skin even after 50 years of so
independence and fail to respect our own "true" culture(not the present
degraded one) which "if put in practice" is far superior to any that the
western world has ever produced.people: remember this - "if we dont respect
ourselves we should not expect anybody else to do so." i appeal to you folks
to spread the name of such places to as many people as possible so that we
may try to restrict patronising such places as far as possible.
