Tip of the day: A small town that cannot support one lawyer can always support two.

Excerpted from the book " The Nuts and bolts of HR and IR-By Rajababu and
Nivedita, copyright Nivraaj Publications".
A gift is something which everyone treasures. Most HR Managers realise this
fact, but just for the record, it is pertinent to keep in mind the fact that
for any employee, a gift given by his company is a priceless item. Something
that they shall cherish forever. This cannot take the place of any amount of
salary which the company may pay out. A gift is something that should be
chosen with great care. A great amount of preparation should go into the
selection of gifts for company employees. At no point of time should this
operation be done in a mechanical or a sterile manner. The HR Manager, or
anyone annointed by him or her for this purpose, should do a lot of
preparation.
In today's era of the Internet, there are n number of sites to choose from.
There are specialised stores which cater their heart and soul for the
specialised gifts.
Also, there are a lot of brochures, booklets and leaflets through which one
should browse while choosing the gift or gifts.
There is another category of gifts which are normally referred to
euphemistically as Corporate Gifts. This is a set of gifts that large
corporates normally keep as a buffer to give some visiting VIP or some Bank
or Financial Institution. This could be doled out during Diwali, or at
Christmas or some such other festive occasion. These gifts obviously due to
their storage cannot be perishables or consumable items. They are in the
nature of designer watches or fancy items or at the most simplistic level,
probably a gift voucher from say, Shopper's Stop or Nirula's or Akbarallys.
The selection of a gift is in reality the simpler part of the exercising,
the handing over of the gift in an socially acceptable fashion is the more
difficult part, which we shall dwell upon in some other chapter.
