Ragini,
I think you are assuming that all young, smart, career-minded people
are computer savvy and know a lot about the web and the internet.
I can't see how you can make this conclusion.
Some of us spend a lot of time online and keep up with the
net-related companies while others don't. Not knowing who
founded Hotmail.com is perfectly normal for someone who
is not a tech-head or one who started using Hotmail.com after
Microsoft acquired it in 1997 (5 years back when net access in
India was still very new).

Why are youngsters 'supposed' to be computer savvy? They
may be more comfortable with computers and the internet but
I don't think you can reach the conclusion that they should
know net-related trivia.
I bet you can't find many people in the US who know the founders
of Yahoo! or Google even though they use it every single day.
Everyone knows Bill Gates primarily because he has been the richest
man on earth for a few years now. But there are thousands of other
founders and successful entrepreneurs who are relatively unknown.
They may be well-known among people who know of them and their
companies but there are nobodies in the larger world.
I wouldn't worry about the state of the educational system
or the youth in India just because they don't know that
Sam Pitroda ... oops... Sabeer Bhatia founded Hotmail.com.
