1. elections:
right now we have no choice but to vote for the least evil of the lot.
perhaps we shd have a choice of a negative vote.- this chap shd not win, then one vote to be deducted from his tally. this is a little better than the present system.
do we really have democracy? I vote NO. but it is like the candidates least evil of the lot.
winning elections? easy. either be a big thug or have enough money to hire thugs.party does not really matter.
what really determines who wins is the liquors and money changing hands on the last few days; unless there is a wave sweeping the country.

2. Sonia: I too have never stopped wondering about the "sudden demise of the real challenge in the congress party to her leadership.

3. CMs n PMs
(btw, can you add "s" to an abbreviation to pluralise?)
to be a good leader one need not be a very educated. there are experts to give the inputs and advice on what to do in any given situations. all that is needed is a person to see to that the right advisers are picked, have a genuine care for people, have the will to take hard decisions when needed and sell the ideas to people.
in Tamil nadu MGR was all this in his first term and governance was not bad. when he realised how much money was needed to win elections in the second term he became corrupted.
