IIRC, there was another Bollywood movie with a similar story:
The girl lost her voice and the guy, being a true Bollywood hero, cut his 
own tongue and wanted to marry her.
Funnily, the girl was kidding all the way and had not lost her voice (or did 
she regain it!).
Poor guy! I think it was Govinda.
