Exactly! How did you know?  ;)

It's magic + a pinch of good luck, the latter being:
* go to the original msg with "alien" text
* choose 'view'menu
* there choose coding
* click on UTF-8
* copy the now miraculously Devanagari text
* paste into the msg being created
* wonder and wonder: how come?  ;)))
I think it goes through as an image not a text. Just my speculation.

While replying Amir hit 'reply to all' without editing the address, so I
got two copies of his mail. It included my previous message, with the
Devanagari lines. The funny thing is that in the direct copy Amir's
signature and the two lines were still Devanagari. In the one got via
Nukkad, the script became "alien" again. 'Devanagarising' it required
the view - coding - UTF-8 procedure.
