1. The context was different, as well as the phrasing.

2. Neither the asking nor the asked was a newcomer [what the asking 
asked about had been  mentioned by the asked before, more than once - 
see the archives]

3. The affront was taken not to the question itself but to the way in 
which it was used by the "questioner".[see the archives]

Conclusion: the above comparison doesn't seem to be well-grounded, and 
the smile on the face of the emoticon  seems to be caustic rather than 
heartfelt.IMHO.

A side remark: it's great to be capable of marvelling, whatever is being 
marvelled at. Congratulations.
