Guptaji,

Yes, they are actually selling power back to the utility company. The
asterisks convey emphasis. I would have used quotes if I had wanted to
qualify the word 'sell'.

There are actually three modes in which the system works - on some
days, you actually buy power - just like usual. On good days, you are
self-sufficient. And on really good days, you produce more power than
you can use and you sell it back to the grid. Of course, the utility
company has to agree to this and not all of them do.

Even if your utility company does not allow you to sell your excess
power back to them, the solar/wind/etc. generated power will certainly
help you reduce or eliminate your bill.

This is probably a common concern and I am sure there are ways of
protecting these panels. You would have to ask the manufacturer or
installer for the details.

I like that you include the attribution in your replies but putting at
the end doesn't make much sense. I didn't write your signature. I
wrote the part at the top of your message. It would be more correct to
keep the attribution close to the quoted text.
