Actually the year I joined my engineering I remember that all the
students who were going to be first graduates in the family got extra 5
marks added to their entrance exam totals for both Engineering and
medicine (Tamil Nadu entrance exams). It made such a big difference that
year! So your idea of adding extra marks (though you were only kidding)
has been implemented already :D
