Re: [nukkad] The Devil's advocate

I also remember that you could get extra marks if you joined the NCC
(something between 2 and 5 marks extra), or if one or both your
parents were freedom fighters (5 marks). Combined with the vocational
extra marks described by Harshal, it was easy for a capable student
from SC/ST or OBC to vault over the 100% marks.

I always hated this. But then I was always an average student. Never
stood a chance in the runnings anywhere. :-)

In our time, only to get that extra 10 marks added to the academic
score sheet I had appeared and cleared Maharashtra Board's
Intermediate Grade Drawing Exams, in case needed.
Elated by this success I went on to join the famous Rajaram's drawing
classes to prepare for the third test ( the first being Elementary ), to
realize soon how tough it was to pencil sketch self - portraits and
human figures without resorting to colours using different types of
graphite pencil shades to produce a desired live effect.
First year Engg. term had begun and study burden was mounting and
as you would have guessed by now I accepted my limitations and
quit the classes.

Rohit Zaveri.
