What is the reason for all the filth on our streets? And the shame that many 
of us feel when a foreigner remarks upon this?

First it is resposnibility of a social kind, that can only come once we have 
appeased some of the basic necessities hunger employment perhaps....

I cannot bring myself to preach cleanliness to somebody if i cannot give 
him/her some of the basic needs.

When an american/brit  talks to me of the filth that lines the streets of 
mumbai I can only tell them one thing the Yank ahs been independent for over 
200 years we have had only 25 % of that ... and the Brit of course is in a 
way responsible... :-)

When we had Pokran II a yank asked me how responsible our leaders were ...
my reply at least the married ones were responsible and faithful .. and I 
cannot expect the man who failed to respect his wife to be responsible 
towards the rest of the world.

We have a problem but they will sort themselves out at least where the 
garbage is concerned
