JERUSALEM LAMENT

I too have a voice and heart and weep and lament long into the heated
nights.

I was born and anointed by the Jordan waters, but today I drown in the blood
of my children. Ishaq kills Isaac kills Isaiah. Yusuf maims Josef maims
Joseph. Mariam watches while Mary weeps and Mariah sad company keeps.

Legions are buried at my knees, Romans, Centurions and Ceasers. Carpathians
who brought in elephants for me to shoulder. Moses and Abraham, Ishmael, all
came, stayed a while and gave breath to the skies above me and lie dead in
my soil.

My walls are for wailing and my Rock for children to spill blood over. The
golden dome and the blue sky were witness to strife, killing, legacy of
blood spilled in my street then, and do so now, without abate.

Today Ariel is poised to blast Ibn Maldoon out of this earth, and their
children as yet unborn wait their turn to do the same.
Three came to find God, yet their brood finds only pain in my streets.

Do not people know that my dust is not sacred, but their hearts are
sacrileged? Till hate rules, I will never sleep.

Alas I am the one they call ...
