*****************************************
List Guidelines for the "nukkad" list.
*****************************************
- "nukkad" is *not* a joke list. There are other much better, much more
suitable mailing lists for humorous material. A list of these lists
is at:
http://www.yahoo.com/Entertainment/Humor__Jokes__and_Fun/Mailing_Lists/
Anyone sending any offensive jokes or any "sardarji" jokes
will be removed from the list.
- Do not send any commercial advertisements to "nukkad". If you wish
to advertise on the Mumbai Central web site and its mailing lists,
write to
ads@mumbai-central.com
- No attachments to messages sent to "nukkad". This includes images and
executable programs. They clog up bandwidth, fill up inboxes and cause
all around misery. Executable attachments can contain viruses that
can cause untold problems to others on the list. If you have something
you want to make available, put it on an online server site and send
a pointer to the list. You can also state you have it, and have people
request it by private e-mail.
- No chain letters, virus warnings, good luck charms and any thing
remotely similar. Definitive information on most hoaxes is available
at:
http://www.kumite.com/myths/
http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html
- Do not include "nukkad" in a larger e-mail group alias of your friends
and acquaintances. This will avoid mistakes where a message suitable
for your friends but unsuitable for a public list gets inadvertantly
posted here.
- Please, please, please, remove the stuff in a note that you are
responding to which is not necessary. There is an increasing
trend on this list to just copy the entire message you are
responding to, including the signatures of all the people
along the line that have responded to it, and resend that in your
note.
Please remove everything from the quoted note except for the
portion that you are actually responding to. This will save
people's time, "nukkad"'s bandwidth, and prevent you from getting
those irritating little notes from me telling you to edit
responses.
- Include your e-mail address in all your messages. This will make
it easier for people to reply to you directly instead of sending it to the
list.
- "nukkad" is not a continuously updated sports ticker. Do not send
messages to the list asking for the latest score of ongoing matches.
The easiest way to get update cricket/football scores is to use off-line
resources (newspapers, TV, radio etc.). If you wish to use the 'net to
get these scores, there are much better places to get them than on
"nukkad" where you are likely to get outdated details.
To get regularly updated cricket scores, use the email-based service
at cricket.org. Send a message to
"cricinfo@cricket.org"
with the words "new live" in the "Subject:" of the message.
This will return you a message containing the matches they are currently
covering. Then send a second message to the same address
"cricinfo@cricket.org" with the name of the match you want the details of.
For eg., sending the "new live" request during the 1st one-day, I got
Your NEW LIVE request matches directory NEW/LIVE/
=================================================================
Listing of Directory NEW/LIVE/ :
Topics ending with / indicate subdirectories
IND_AUS_PTC_ODI1_01APR1998 STATS/
LIVEDATA/
A second message to "cricinfo@cricket.org" with the subject
IND_AUS_PTC_ODI1_01APR1998
resulted in the current scoreboard and ball-by-ball details.
This is much better, more reliable and more useful way to get the cricket
scores than asking on this list.
- People who post riddles, brain-teasers and other conundrums
should compile the responses and post a summary to the list. People
responding to such puzzles should do it directly to the sender and not
to the list. If you are not willing or unable to summarize the responses
to your puzzles, don't send them to the list.
- Not everyone has the luxury of unlimited time and bandwidth. A few people
have been asked to leave the list by their network admin (at work) as
messages from this list were overloading their systems.
If this mailing list is to survive and serve its purpose, all of us need
to make a conscious effort to reduce the number of messages we send
to "nukkad".
If you are sending non-critical material like jokes (why?), limit your
messages to one or a maximum of two per day.
- Please consider using other, more appropriate free resources before
asking a question on this list. You will find a particular piece of
software much quicker if you used a regular search engine than if you
asked here.
- Do not post anything remotely offensive on this list.
Your boss might be reading it.
Remember that you own your words and that they own you. Communicating
on this list is akin to standing up in front of a large audience and
making a speech. In fact, it is worse since you can't see them and have no
idea of their reactions. Think about this when you send your next message
to "nukkad".
