Hi
Indeed an interesting topic
- Why and when did polygamy became unlawful in Hindu Society ?
Age old custom of making laws that suit the people who make laws..probably one
of the reasons why the king was allowed to practice polygamy. The reason, Well
the king had to carry his lineage forward and a heir is needed to his throne
of his own flesh and blood. Since noone else but them followed it, after they
were all gone Polygamy was gone too and hence termed unlawful ultimately by
people's law.
- Why is it still prevalant and accepted practice among Muslim Society ?
One of the reasons why Islam as a religion survived is because of polygamy as
the early preachers of islam wanted to spread the religion across the world
with zeal, vigour and voilence and one of the ways was to reproduce. ( A pure
sociiological approch and no offense to anybody,I respect all religions alike)
My thoughts ..
