For the past 8 days, a strange phenomenon has come over Mumbaiites
found in the area of the Times of India building, in the C.S.T. (the
station earlier known as V.T.) area.
One can hear shrieks and screams coming out of 'Planet M', the music
store opened recently by Times of India.
On further investigation, it was found that these screams were a result
of the 'Scream-O-Meter' launched recently at 'Planet M' by Paramount
Films of India as a promotion campaign for their latest movie,
"The Mummy" which opened across cinema halls in the country yesterday,
the 1st of October.
The 'Scream-O-Meter' is an interactive touch screen kiosk with a voice
capture module developed to run a promotion contest for the movie. The
contestant has to stand near the 'Scream-O-Meter' and scream as loud as
possible. If the scream crosses a particular level, the contestant wins
free tickets to the movie
The 'Scream-O-Meter' has been developed by Indiagames.com. The entire
development of the kiosk (hardware and software) was done in-house by
the Indiagames.com team.
Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, the World No.1 doubles team in
tennis, screamed their lungs out when they inaugurated
'Indiagames.com Scream-O-Meter' contest at Planet M on saturday,
the 25th of september.
The duo, not usually known for their vocal outbursts on the court, put
their vocal chords to test at the 'Scream-O-Meter'. Amidst a
cheering crowd, Paes and Bhupathi were successful in pleasing 'The
Mummy' who not only granted them their freedom from its curse, for
being successful, but also gave them free tickets to the movie.
The contest has been made open to the public from tuesday, 28th Sept.,
at Planet M, Mumbai.
This also marked the launch of the online game contest of "The Mummy".
You can play the game online at <http://www.indiagames.com/mummy.htm>
and win various prizes.
This is for the first time that such a kiosk has been developed in
India (and probably Asia) for the promotion of a movie.
Thr kiosk and the people's reaction to such a concept has already
attracted a lot of media attention with the Economic Times carrying
the inauguration event on its front page and other dailies too
giving it an extensive coverage. Various TV channels too are
covering the promotion campaign in their programmes.
Looking at the success of the Scream-O-Meter', Paramount Films of India
are soon planning to take the kiosk to New Delhi.
