I have not read it all but I do think that this was certainly in poor taste.

Diets are personal and I doubt very much that reading about how it si done 
scientifically is going to change it.

If you do find this reasonably humane method of killing as practised in 
abbatoirs, I would suggest you drive on the highways of South India.

We have very cleverly banned "cow slaughter" only to put the bull on the 
chopping block. Bulls once they have outlived their usefullness as draught 
or a farmers help end up on the back of a truck and believe me sardines in 
tin  cans have more room!!

The sight is not pleasant but I for one could see the terror in the eyes of 
the animals careening along the highways of Kerala.

Some do not complete the journey and are left gasping for what is their last 
breath yards away form where their brethren are slaughtered without the 
benfitys of anaesthesia.

I do not think we can change the way man eats but we can at least change the 
inhumane treatment that is meted out to the animals.

One good thing that came out of a publicity campaign in Kerala is that 
animals can no longer be transported in the manner described and a few other 
restrictions have been put in place.

But the trademark butchers sign of a head of beef or bufflo adorning the 
butchers block will continue to haunt me for many a night.
