This sounds like an interesting, low-cost way to keep in touch. From
what I could find out, it is like email for voice i.e. it is not
for real-time conversation. Your exchange voice-mail with your
family and they can pick it up by calling a local number (they
have local access numbers in most Indian cities and US cities). 

If anyone here has already tried this (the service has been in testing
for a while), please let us know.
