Re: [nukkad] List of talented ex Indian cricketers capable to coach the Indian Cricket Team !!

Tip of the day: Get your Bollywood fix here:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rajan,
Playing experience yes - talent at playing the game is certainly no
prerequisite for a coach.

One of the most suiccesful coaches in the suburbs of Bombay has been Oliver
Andrade now a Municipal Councillor. From the tim i knew "Olly" hehas never
been able to run firther than a few yards ata time but boy could he coach!!!
He produced some of the best players to turnm out for Bombay / Maharashtra
and if it hadnt been for regionalism I am sure we would have had many more
in teh national team.

Dave Whatmore Sri Lanka's coach who took them to victory in the World Cup
was no Lankan. Dennis Lillee is Australian and if it were not for hime we
still would have five spinners in teh team and be reduced to opening the
bowling with a spnner like New Zealand did a while ago.

And then one final point, local playing conditions are one thing, cricket is
an international game. I would also like to add a few instances here that
really show what the game of cricket is all about.

The first - Sunil Gavaskar in the way to his maiden century in the West
Indies played a silly stroke o Rohan Kanhai's bowling while in the 90's.
Kanhai went up to Gavaskar and told him, "Son dont throw it away". Another
involved Azharuddin who was going through a lean patch, had his grip
corrected by Zaheer "Zed" Abba and the result his average shot up again!

The third and final episode involves two non Indians. Mushtaq "Mushy" Ahmed
of Pakistanwho appeared to be failing with his leg spin in Australia was
invited up to Shane Warne's room for finer tips on Aussie conditions and
spin.

That is what cricket is all about. Its a game and is shared by an
International cmmunity. However on teh sub-continent we seem to have taken
it to a level that is more war than anythging else.

Finally many of the "brains" that have made it big in the US were trained
educated in tehir later years by "foreigners" does that make them non
Indian?

Rehards

Ravi
