Hi rajesh,
i don't know where the key is located, however
1. i suggest you let scandisk run, as it checks your harddisk and finds
and resolves errors on them. if not resolved, you entire directory or
harddisk might get corrupted.

2. the excessive time it takes is when you ask for entire surface scan.
hence if you switch that off, it will take a maximum of 1 minute. please
bear with it for the safety of your data.

3. if you are not liking searching and manually tweaking scandisk.ini,
once your computer starts, run scandisk from START/ Program/
Accessories/ System Tools, once the screen comes, opt for "standard"
which takes just a minute, not for "thorough" which takes a lifetime.

4. if you are facing abnormal behaviour of scandisk,:-

4.a reload windows while offering cheese capsicum pizza to a photo of
Mr Bill Gates.

4.b in Find option search for "scandisk*" in all your harddisks one by
one, delete any scandisk.alt or .bak or any file other than three of
.log, .exe, .ini

if the arbitrary error message is due to some semifinished previous
scan, it will get solved.

though i did not answer your query, hope it helps you.

regards.
