The IndoCenter of Art & Culture (New York) is hosting an
exhibition titled "From Goddess to Pin Up: Icons of Femininity 
in Indian Calendar Art".

There is an online exhibit at: http://www.indocenter.org/exhibit.asp?id=16
that provides a glimpse into the exhibition. I bet we all have seen 
and used a calendar like the one from 'National Glass House, Ludhiana' 
(http://www.indocenter.org/exhibit_item.asp?id=16&pn=8)

and the blurb for the exhibition says:
    As an institution dedicated to bringing a wide spectrum of 
    contemporary South Asian art to our audiences, we are particularly 
    pleased to present this landmark show on a vital, and largely 
    neglected popular Indian art form. Calendar, or 'bazaar' art, 
    is perhaps the most ubiquitous form of visual culture in 
    contemporary India, gazing down upon millions of people from 
    office and kitchen walls, to shop counters, motor vehicles, 
    temples and roadsides. 
    
    'From Goddess to Pinup' comes to the IndoCenter after touring 
    India, the Netherlands and Japan and will be on view at from 
    October 4, 2001 through January 19, 2002.
