---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I look for what needs to be done.... After all, that's how the universe designs itself. -R. Buckminster Fuller, engineer, designer, and architect (1895-1983) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I recd. this via email (re-formatted for legibility): One Sky One World - Kites for Peace Where: Priyadarshini Park, Napean Sea Road When: Sat, 12 Oct 2002 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm In today's fragmented world peace and harmony among the peoples of the World is the first casualty. The sky is the only space that seems devoid of borders that keep people apart. Romantics, idealists and visionaries have looked up into the heavens for inspiration and the kite is one of the most powerful symbols of man's desire to break free of the shackles of the earth. All over the world, in countries as diverse as USA to China and Sweden to Korea, people get together to fly kites for peace on the 2nd weekend in October. The theme is One Sky One World - there are no political affiliations or agendas; its ordinary people all over the globe getting together on the same day to celebrate freedom and the desire for peace and harmony among all religions and ethnic groups. Similar events will be held in almost 30 countries across the world on 12th and 13th Oct 2003. On Sat 12 Oct we plan to fly Kites for Peace in Mumbai in association with ActionAid India. The plan is to involve some schoolchildren, some street children and some celebrities to come together to fly Kites for Peace. We shall conduct kite making workshops in various schools to generate enthusiasm among the children before the event. Banners promoting communal harmony and peaceful coexistence will be displayed at the venue. Over 250 children from the leading NGOs in the city - Salaam Baalak Trust and Magic Bus - will participate in the kite workshops and will come to fly their kites with us. Mr. M.N. Singh, the Police Commissioner, has graciously consented to be a Guest of Honor. People who wish to participate in this event are welcome to bring their kites and fly with us. Kites will also be made available to the general public at very reasonable prices to enable them to participate. We also have an exotic collection of kites from all over the world and some of these will be flown during the event to add greater visual excitement. We look forward to your support, and your presence, at Kites for Peace.
