Hi Nukkies,
 For a moment I will consider what Siva  said is true. Those who come from
 India dont know the standards. 
 Well now put it this way. I also came here. I have no relatives here who
helped. Yes I had friends but I did not ask them tell me the best
universities.

 I actually short listed universities and asked second opinions from
friends in which case your friends dont have to do the head breaking.
REMEMBER IT IS YOUR COLLEGE EDUCATION. THEY DID THAT FOR
THEMSELVES.YOU DO IT FOR YOURSELF. Which is very easy to do. 

Well if someone wants to go to USA, then they should do the homework
before coming here. USEFI is a non-profit organisation that has
counselling for the candidates.It is present in all four metros. There are
numerous books available in the market that tell you about US education.
These days most ALUMNI associations conduct US EDUCATION fairs. If you
cannot find any of these then there is Internet.

US-NEWS.EDU is a reputed and a generally trustable ranking of US
universities.

 I would say if someone has decided which university to go to and has
got a VISA for the same then they should also go through that University
or Departments website's and find the requirements.

I understand nowadays most people who come to US are just out of college
unlike me who came after working. So my perspectives and their's would be
different. But then would it be too much to ask someone who is coming to a
differnet country to work a little harder to find out about that Country.

As for me I was extra cautious. It is a different country so I double
checked everything. 

Then again if someone asks tell me any 3 subjects, it just implies that
he/she is not interested in the BS or MS but in the H1B visa that they
would get. 

Hey all that will do is make the standard of education go down. Look that
is what has happened to Indian education, nobody cares, you just want a
paper saying "Conferred to so and so...".


So to all those on NUKKAD who want to reach the US shores for  a college
education. Do your homework yourself. Nobody can help you better than
yourself. It is your money and time you are spending so make your
decisions after a careful evaluation of your needs and your means.

PS: When Americans come to India, they will surely know which is the best 
school to study. Just look at how they make a small vacation plan.
