Tip of the day: A gifted teacher is as rare as a gifted doctor,
and makes far less money.

Hi Gang,
Remember those school/college days? Those pranks,
sports, competitions, exams blues, professors
yelling for better performance, report cards that
looked so colorful!!
Some teachers who have made an impact on my life.
At school, we had a music master who had lots of
patience to teach us to sing. He had a dreamy voice
and his guitar purred as he touched it. Absolutely
fantastic! He face would always be so calm. Music
does that to people, I guess. I pray that his soul
rests in peace.
Grammar has always haunted me. Sanskrit is not an
easy language and I had flunked in Sanskrit
language during the preps. My teachers were
surprised. Sanskrit teacher and me would not get
along well. She would always pick on me. She
asked me if I had a problem and the reason for my
bad performance. Obviously I had a big problem. I
told her that she scared me. I had lost interest in
the subject.
After that talk, things changed and I never
again flunked. The fact was that she liked me
and that was her way of expressing affection.
People, I can never understand!
Every week we had meditation class. Our Principal
would speak about life and works of great people
like Sri Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, The Mother, lot
more. She would explain the meaning of the verses
in Gita and Vedas and its significance. Most of it
went right over my head. But it had a strong impact
on my life. I pray, may her soul rest in peace.
College was total chaos. Few years back it was a
student-professor relationship. But now, its
friendship! Oh my good God! What all they speak
behind students' back! Never realized that a coin
had two faces.
We played a lot of pranks, harmless ones. I would
like to share one incident that upset so many. Head
of department, Physics, was a very nice, loving and
aged lady. We were just thirty of us in the class
and the most famous too. "Oh, that class? Watch
out!", was the general expression. Well, one of my
classmates stuck a bubble gum on the chair in the
science lab. The chair was usually occupied by the
lab assistant, who was a jerk. The experiments were
on light and that happened to be a dark room. Alas,
our bad lucks. HOD visited the lab and she sat on
that chair before we could warn her. She was upset
and was fuming. She refused to forgive us and
suspended all our theory classes and no help in the
labs were offered.
Just two months for our exams and lots had to be
covered. Letting out the name of the classmate,
would never happen. We decided that each one of us
would prepare on a topic and lecture in the class.
Initially, we found it difficult. Half the time we
spent in the library and surprised the professors.
We topped!
Have liked all my professors.
Loved the college life! Most of us have dispersed.
Some still surviving, some dead and gone. That’s
life, folks.
That’s it… Happy Teachers’ Day. Hmm…wonder if they
are really happy about their day!!
Asha
