Dear Nukkies
Let me use this forum to express my profound, deep and heartfelt
sorrow for the victims and their families of the terrorist attack in New
York and elsewhere in the US. The terrorists responsible for this carnage
should be condemned in the strongest language possible. While grieving
about the enormity of the tragedy it is also presents us an opportunity to
introspect some real and hard facts.

The accusing finger points to Islamic fundamentalists and top of the suspect
list is of course Osama Bin Laden led groups. But are they alone to be
blamed? Can the US administration and their policies be completely absolved?
Well I believe NO. Had the US and the West not tried to impose its own brand
of secular values throughout the world, the religious backlash to everything
western may not have been so brutal in the first place. Here are some of the
deeds done by US and their allies, which they perceived as right but which
later proved to be big blunders.

1. Interference in the affairs of Vietnam without taking into consideration
the ground realities there. The Americans ultimately paid a heavy price and
had to leave with their heads hung in shame.

2. In order to score a point over Iran, they armed Saddam Hussein and Iraq
to the teeth and in the process transformed a two-bit dictator into a
world-class threat. The world community had to pay a very high price in the
form of Kuwait invasion and later the Gulf war.

3. Created the Taliban armed them and incited into war to counter the
Soviets. However it is poetic justice that the very same Taliban sheltered,
harboured and supported America’s bete’ noir Osama Bin Laden.

4. America led NATO was in the forefront while acting against Serbs and
Croats in Bonia. Sometime later they bombed Serbia into submission in the
name of protecting Kosovo, without taking into consideration the fact that
KLA is nothing but a band of brutal Islamic terrorists. Months later much to
their dismay of NATO, the very same Albanian Islamic rebels now legitimised
by them create trouble in neighbouring Macedonia, their ultimate aim, to
create a greater Islamic Albania comprising of Albania, Kosovo, parts of
Bosnia and parts of Macedonia. Did NATO ever do a reality check before
venturing into this operation?

The above-mentioned instances are only a few. Back in India, there are
unconfirmed reports that the American establishment funded many a movements
like anti Hindi riots in Tamil Nadu, and Khalistan movement in Punjab.
Indirectly they are responsible for making Pakistan nuclear for it is them
who poured in funds during the Ziaul Haq regime. The US claims that they
stand for freedom and liberty but perhaps in their own way and no other
way. How else can one explain the rationale behind the condemnation the
Indian Army for Human Rights violations in Kashmir completely ignoring the
fact that they are countering mindless and brutal terrorists and
conveniently forgetting the plight of Pandits being driven out? US claim
that they stand for democracy, but on every occasion they did their level
best to hurt democratic India’s interest but had no qualms in joining hands
with dictatorial Pakistan. Isn’t it a fact that they wanted to protect
their self-interests and not uphold democracy? What else is preventing them
from declaring Pakistan a terrorist sate despite having more than enough
evidence pointing in this direction?

I don’t want to turn this into a score settling exercise. However American
policy makers should realise that what is good for US need not necessary be
good for the rest of the world. They should come to terms with the fact
that their judgements were wrong on many instances and it is best to keep
their hands off conflicts in other regions. Unless they learn that questions
of meaning and value mean more to some cultures than a convenient
cheeseburger from MacDonald’s, lasting solutions cannot be achieved.

Befeore leaving a word to list member Indian Rediff who painted India as
balkanised and on the verge of break-up, all based on the departure of
couple of hot headed individual from this list. Well Mr. Indian Rediff then
based on current events then you should shudder at the thought of being in
US for you are no way safe and is as vulnerable as an individual in India.
Please don’t consider this as a ranting by an ultra nationalist based in
India. I’m very much residing out of India as you are. My only advise is
don’t examine problems in India with the convoluted view of an NRI.

Bye
