Warrior souls of New York
Burdened below rubble stone and slab

We wake this night in Vigil
Sisters and brothers from foreign shores

Courage!
The midnight hour comes upon all

For some in hospital bed
For some on asphalt of some rural road
For some in bed of their erstwhile home
For some as you under the Bastion
Felled by the Coward's hand unseen

World Tower
Towering over the Free world
You now nurture our brothers and sisters
In their midnight hour away from familiar fold
Even as you stand and bleed.

You will rise again and stand tall
And firm in the face of those who strike.

Their day will soon come and their own kind
Will herd them out of hearth and home
And throw upon some desert sand
To be alive and dead, or dead and living
But only in name, and in bitter fame.

Courage, John, Jane, Betty, Bob
Courage, Hassan, Bimla, Basu, Charles
Courage, Hans, Chang, Chinlee, Walter.

Courage, children of all lands of far
Dawn will bring help and succor
And either freedom in earth's tired air
Or sleep in some land where terror isn't there.
