Abhijit,

Do you really believe the street thugs will ask for names and religion
before causing trouble? Even if he did, would he know that Karve
is not a Muslim name?

I shudder to think of the results if the average American starts
venting out against foreigners. I doubt they will stop to check
your religious beliefs. Most likely, all brown-skinned, dark-haired 
folks including YOU will be at risk.

It is incredibly naive to believe otherwise. 


Also, the desire to retaliate and destroy the people behind this
is understandable. But wouldn't US be engaging in terrorism too if it
killed innocent civilians? The people of Afghanistan, Palestine,
wherever who have every right to a peaceful life as the people in the 
US. Even after the US finds out the mastermind behind this act,
the difficult part will be to figure out what to do. Extradition
and diplomatic ways may take too long but an outright bombing will
result in more anger and resentment which are the root cause of the
tragedy.
