Abhijit,

Unfortunately - whether you like it or not - our freedom fighters (especially the ones that had violent streaks in them) - can indeed be classified as terrorists.

At the time, the word was probably not in vogue. It has become more a fashion to use it in current times. I would hazard that the first time it was used in current times would probably have been the Munich Olympics when terrorists killed so many Israeli athletes.

Thereafter the word has been used more and more loosely to encompass all kinds of acts that can be construed so as to "strike terror at the hearts of the 'enemy' ".

And if you look at what our great patriots aimed to do - it was precisely that. From the British point of view, in modern day terms, they would be classified as terrorists. Just as Pirabhakaran of the LTTE is a terrorist for Sri Lanka and India, he is a freedom fighter and a hero for his Tamils.

It is just a matter of perspective. Some day you might realise this - if you care to put on the other person's shoes.

When you see what our great freedom fighter, Subhash Chandra Bose tried, it is comparable 100% with what Pirabhakaran is trying to do. I defy you to prove otherwise. Yet Pirabhakaran is a terrorist - and Bose is a freedom fighter. It is just a matter of perspective.

When you look at what Azad did - there is precious little that separates his actions from the ones taken by the IRA (Irish Republican Army) or the suicide bomb-laden truck drivers in the Middle East when they blow themselves up in Israel.

Just because the British didn't use the word terrorist does not make our freedom fighters' actions any different. Nor will the consequences of the actions change.
