Looks like you guys have been watching too much Rambo lately.
I can't think of any other reason you think annhilation and mass
murder is the only way to deal with this crime.

The image of American aircraft and missiles bombing Arab states and 
producing massive casualties -- many of them, inevitably, civilians with 
no ties to terrorists -- will surely confirm the belief among many 
ordinary Muslims that bin Laden is right: that the United States is intent 
on tormenting and subduing the Islamic world.

As someone else said, after being stung by a bee, you might want to 
go smack the beehive with a big stick, but all that gets you is more 
stings. In the current context, even if bin Laden is killed by the US,
it will only incite more people to avenge him. And you can be sure that
the next terrorist attack, whenever and whereever it happens, will be
more devastating than this one.

The response from the US and all other countries should be to figure
out a way to avoid a repeat of such incidents. 

Sure, go out and open a can of whoop-ass on the people responsible.
But justifying the killing of innocent civilians will make the Us
no better than the people it is hunting.
