            That news item points to a very disturbing trend which  left 
uchecked will be exploited by the Thackerays and Katiyars to fan out more 
communal riots. Now coming to your question as to what happends to India in 
case US attacks Afghanistan? Fisrst of all I don't think US will go an for 
an all out  attack. Judging by past history and the experience of former 
invaders British and Soviets, it is amply clear that the capute of Kabul 
doesn't warrant surrender of Afghanisthan. Also I beleive that the Americans 
are aware that military advancements and sophistications stand nothing 
against a band of determined fundamentalist guerillas ready for anything to 
acheive their so called cause. Americans themselves learned this in Vietnam 
and back home Indians realised this in Sri Lanka.

Now in spite of all this if US decides for a full scale ground war against 
Afghanisthan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan will be more apt for setting up 
bases than India, because of  the former's geographic proximity to 
Afghanistan. In that sense India should feel lucky that in no way they have 
to get involved in the whole exercise. But that doesnt in any way guarantee 
a win win situation against Pakistan. In case US request Pakistan to set up 
bases in Pakistan and Pakistan agrees, then Musharraf can ask for a tight 
bargain with US including a formal recognition of the present regime and 
less favour towards India when it comes to Kashmir. This is the eventuality 
that the Indian diplotic establishment has to counter vigorously. It has to 
drive the point to the US and the rest of the world community that 
terrosrism cannot be selective and doesn't change in nature if disguised 
under the cloak of freedom struggle. This can help a lot in exposing the 
militants in Kashmir.

However having said this, anything could happen? Let's wait and see?
