Hi,
  I know the topic of hate crimes was brought up in this discussion sometime 
ago. But I would like to throw in a personal experience. I live in a suburb 
of Chicago, not too far from me is a mosque. It looked like a white house, 
the only thing to set it apart was the board that said Islamic Society on 
the outside. I used to pass it quite often and didnt give it much thought. A 
few days ago my siblings were told by their friends who used to go there to 
pray that the mosque was razed to the ground. I didnt believe it till I went 
and saw the site/sight. I still dont believe it. I guess the news have 
focussed so much on NYC that it didnt even make the sidelines. I dont see 
the point of it and yet this is only the beginning of the hate crimes that 
will follow. But I also realize that were this India communal riots would 
have exploded and done far more damage by now, so in a way the reaction is 
contained. Do we just automatically expect more tolerance from the people 
here because they claim to be such a melting pot of cultures?
