Rudra,

Note that the MSN news article is from last week while the NYT report
is more than six months old (from Feb 2006).

Also, the MSN article quotes the Iranian president as saying that the
Indian PM told him of India's support. This is hardly an official
endorsement.

The NYT article talks of an official UN vote to merely report Iran to
the Security Council - the vote was somewhat inconsequential and
India's 'Yes' vote didn't really matter. The 'Yes' vote was a smart
move because it showed the US that India shared its concern over
Iran's nuclear program but didn't really harm Iran. Pure politics.
