I am reminded of the 'Dead Parrot Sketch' by Monty Python. John Cleese has quite a few ways to state 'this parrot is dead'. Maybe some might be useful? ;-) I must say, to those who say that the jokes are distasteful, that you have to see the sketch to enjoy it. http://www.serve.com/bonzai/monty/classics/TheDeadParrotSketch I also vaguely remember reading about a university alumni paper digging a little or a lot of fun at those alum that were recently departed. I believe it was a British publication. You may be able to dig around for that. Having said this, I think these trite phrases are expected and any publication that does not do so will, sooner or later, have to answer for it.
