Significance of Ekadashi is rather new to me. I know aatham ( 8 th day ) and Pakhi ( 14 th day ) being observed by my grand mother whenever she visited us in Bombay. It gave me shocks that although she had lived half her life time in Nairobi and London she still held onto age old Jain tradition of not to cook and eat green vegetables on these two days of each month. She passed away 30 years ago and with her died in our home that tradition too. I think Ekadashi is observed ( if atall ) by Vaishnavas, am not aware if some brand of Jains also follow the practice. May be Kejal Shah knows better !!! Rohit Zaveri ====================================== the jain calender calculates dates from the full moon day and the new moon day. that is it is a lunar calender. the 11th day is ekaadasii it is an auspicious day for those who seriously follow vishnu as their lord. tv ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing; a confusion of the real with the ideal never goes unpunished. -- Goethe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To join/leave, use the form at: http://www.mumbai-central.com/nukkad/#options This list is archived at: http://www.mumbai-central.com/nukkad/archive.html
